North-East Asia Regional Power Interconnection and Cooperation Forum Held in Beijing

        On Oct. 26, North-east Asia Regional Power Interconnection and Cooperation Forum co-organized by China Electricity Council (CEC), Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), and Energy Charter Secretariat was held in Beijing. Experts, scholars, officials and industry leaders from China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Russia gathered to exchange their findings and views on the power cooperation of the region.

        CEC Executive President Yang Kun delivered keynote speech on the opening ceremony and indicated a strong confidence of promoting power interconnection and cooperation in the region of North-east Asia. According to Mr. Yang, energy mix and energy consumption, energy supply and consumption are highly complementary in North-east Asia from the perspectives of natural resource endowment; the connection between the renewable energy bases in Northeast China, Mongolia and Far East Russia and the consumption and load centers in Central China, Japan and Korea will promote the development and utilization of energy, especially new energy in all countries in the region.

        During the forum, participants from State Grid Corporation of China, Mongolian Ministry of Energy, SoftBank Group of Japan, Korea Electric Power Corporation and Rosseti of Russia shared power system plan of their respective countries; research organizations from China, Russia and international organizations like GEIDCO presented their up-to-date research results on the power grid interconnection of the region. UN-ESCAP, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Natural Resources Defense Council and several other organizations with interest on this issue send participants to the Forum.
